Can Diabetes Be Cured By Surgery ?

Diabetes require lifelong treatment with dieting, medication and sometimes insulin injections. Poor control of blood sugar levels can lead to complications such as kidney failure, blindness and amputations.

Diabetes is often associated with obesity. Doctors can now treat patients with a new surgical option called metabolic surgery.

Results if a large randomized study by the Cleveland Clinic published in 2014 has proven that metabolic  surgery is better in controlling blood sugar levels than mainstream medical therapy.

Nearly all patients who underwent either Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy or Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass were free of insulin, and many were free of all diabetic medications three years after surgery.

Metabolic Surgery may be the key to long-term control of diabetes (type 2).

It can improve or normalize blood glucose levels up to 89% of patients.

In some patients, discontinuation of insulin therapy is possible.

Metabolic Surgery Methods :-

Sleeve Gastrectomy.

Sleeve-GastrectomyKeyhole surgical procedure that converts the stomach into a long narrow tube about the shape and size of a banana

Gastric Bypass

Gastric BypassKeyhole surgical procedure which creates a small egg-shaped pouch in the upper stomach that is then connected to the lower part of the small intestine in a “Y” configuration.

Food is diverted by this bypass and is only absorbed in a short segment of the intestines.
